REPORT

Great New Venue

The newly built Raye Freedman Arts Centre at Epsom Girls Grammar School is a wonderful new Centre that is almost purpose designed for our event. This first class centre features, full lighting, excellent accoustics, sound proof practise areas, food facilities making the event most enjoyable for performers, audience and organisers.

Kochetov ill, so Poeluev Tours to the 2005 South Pacific Accordion Championships

In October 2004, Evgeny Kochetov won the Coupe Mondiale International Piano Accordion class in Pontarlier, France. Part of his prize was a concert tour to Australia and New Zealand in 2005 to be the guest artist at our event. Just as Evgeny was due to depart, he had the great misfortune to become ill with pneumonia.

This was little more than a week after he had won second place at the Klingenthal International Accordion Competition. Alexander Poeluev has made himself available for the tour. In 2002 Alexander became the first contestant to ever win two categories in the same year - the "Coupe Mondiale World Accordion Championships" and "International Competition for Piano Accordion".

Opening

The weekend began with a Wine and Cheese followed by the Welcome Concert in the new venue. Guests were the ASA New South Wales State Accordion Orchestra (Australia) conducted by Elizabeth Jones. Alexander Poeluev then performed and received a standing ovation for a superb performance from the enthusiastic audience. One of the worlds most exciting young accordion artists.

Competitions

On Saturday and Sunday followed the competitions. A most successful competition event was held and the competitions ended with the Results and Prize-Giving Concert to an almost full hall.

Finale

The finale of the Festival was the Farewell Dinner on Sunday night. The South Pacific Accordion Championship tropies are presented, and the night is always a great party with lots of live music and dancing. A great end to the 2005 event.
